HSR Health and Safety Representative Training North Brisbane - $785.00, fully catered

The Initial Health and Safety Representative (HSR) program in Brisbane, is designed to give participants practical knowledge and skills to liaise with other staff to identify Work Health and safety (WHS) issues as a HSR Rep.

HSRs are elected by their work group members and are entitled to attend this WorkCover Queensland approved five (5) day training course within three months of making a request for such training to the PCBU.

Employers are required allow the Health and Safety Representative to take time off work to attend this training under the QLD WHS Act 2011.
HSRs are also entitled to attend one (1) day refresher training at least every three (3) years, with the entitlement to the first refresher training commencing three (3) years after the initial training (as per WHS Safety Act 2011).

Overview of WHS legislative framework

  • Duties of various parties
  • Key WHS terminology
  • The role of WHSQ and penalties for non‐compliance
  • Requirements and mechanisms for consultation in the workplace on WHS issues
  • Effective participation in consultation & issue resolution
  • Consultation strategies
  • Resolving WHS issues through negotiation and conflict resolution
  • The role, entitlements and protections for HSRs and Health and Safety Committees (HSCs)
  • Identifying hazards and ways they can be eliminated or minimised
  • Incident notification and investigation
  • Issuing Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) and directing unsafe work to cease.

Pre-entry requirements: Language and Literacy requirements for the course are:

Health and Safety Representative (HSR) Refresher program is designed to revitalise participants knowledge and skills attained during the initial five (5) day course, enabling them to continue to exercise powers for the purpose of promoting and ensuring the health and safety at work of members of HSR's work group.
